Waste Management Is A Good Sector For You If You Want To Bring a Positive Change in The World

One of the biggest challenges the planet is facing is waste management. The electronic waste, plastic waste are filling up the land polluting water bodies under the Earth (aquifers) and the waste dumped in the ocean is disrupting the marine life and polluting the ocean.

Ever been to the Okhla area in Delhi? There is a mountain of dump over there. There are millions of dump yards such as these. The problem is that we are producing but we dont know how to dispose.

Everyday, every home in India and the world produces garbage. We discard garbage but we don't segregate it as per wet and dry waste which would make the lives of garbage collectors very easy.

I live in a multi story apartment. All the 300 flats in the building produce waste and they throw is down one single garbage chute. All the wet and dry waste clumped together goes down the chute, gets collected at the bottom and rots. The garbage collectors comes every few days (God bless them), picks up the garbage and takes it to God knows where.

The first component in understanding garbage disposal is knowing where our garbage is taken (Garbage disposal site of the city).

Every city has garbage disposal site/s as per the size of the city. Okay, so the garbage is taken over there.

The second component is understanding what happens to the garbage once it is taken to the garbage disposal sites.

Once we have broken down all the elements of waste management for cities (because villages don't seem to have any major problem related to the waste they have generated), we will be able to see the impact of the waste we generate and how to reduce that impact to make human existence sustainable.

Say for example, I live in Jaipur city where daily waste production is around 1200 Metric Ton per day, and around 200-250 MT/day stays on the street, then it says a lot about the waste management of Jaipur city. This is the same waste you see in the form of garbage on the roads.

Therefore, if you are a responsible citizen and a conscious human being who feels bad looking at the state of waste management on city roads, this is the problem you can solve. The entrepreneur in you can be put to a good use. You can make profit out of solving almost any problem in the world but by solving waste management problems, you get a change to not only make money, but create a legacy. People will remember you for years and our kids will have a better place to live.
