Want to design a life of your choices? Do this one exercise. It is the only way you can reach your goals without beating yourself over them.
We humans are born with desires. As we grow, the pile of desires keep growing. By God's grace, each human has enough to be grateful about it. But we all wish to shape our lives as we find appropriate, hence we keep our efforts to do so. If I am driving a car right now, I'd like to have accessories of my taste in it. If I am living in a house, I'd like to develop the front garden as per my liking. If my work makes me meet certain kind of people I don't approve of, I'd like to change the kind of people meet at the office. My bank balance shows something and I'd like it to show something else ($$$). The list is long.
It is only logical to think of things I'd like to improve in my life as we live our lives. But here is the situation. Your physical environment is a manifestation of your thoughts and mindset. Your physical environment changes with respect to the change in your ideas and beliefs.
Human is a product of habit. Whatever you practice for a long time, you become exactly that. If you think of all the things that are not right in your life, well you become a person who constantly notices the things that are not right around them. What does that do? After a certain point, your perspective about your environment start to have an effect on you. It is but human nature to feel unhappy and unsatisfied when things don't go our way. So as a consequence, your quality of life gets affected because of your tendency to consistently notice the flaws in your life.
Now, here is a solution. You desire something because you would like to feel a certain way upon attaining that desire. And it is million times better to be desireless and takes practice to do so; however if you'd ever like to get to the desire you have in you, here is really powerful practice you can do to get the desired outcome...
You should take some quite time out, introspect and find out how you'd like to feel once you get to your desire. Really understand how you'd feel once you get there. Get in to the details. It is very important. The importance is in the details. Once you get your desire, how are you going to feel. Because it is ultimately the feeling we crave. So really paint a picture about how you'd like to feel after you have had that you want. And make it a habit to meditate on that particular feeling. This is a really profound practice you can inculcate in your behavior. Most people who do not understand how human mind works. It is the mind that is the master of your behavior, your personality, your actions. So it is the mind that needs to be trained to get what you want. The legitimacy of the desire is a deep philosophical subject that needs lengthy discussion and is not a part of this conversation. This conversation is limited to finding the best way of getting what you want.
Once you begin to float in the feeling of accomplishment of the desire, you will see a gigantic shift in your perspective. you will be a new person. At the same time, if you begin to notice that the fulfilment of desire is not taking place; be alarmed. The desire has begun being fulfilled at the very moment you began to float in the feeling of accomplishment. Now the due process is time. And you have to bide by it.
Now comes the execution part. Your perspective will make you get into situations which will eventually help you to fulfil your want. If you are mindful, you will see these situations appear in your life. You will be elated that a range of events are happening and you are able to see them happening for you. Here, if you are a brave heart and take the leap of faith and actually execute, your speed of reaching your desired outcome will astound you and soon you will find your physical environment adjusting to get you your desired outcome. This practice can be found in many of the techniques of 'Tantra'.
Try to understand it by a simple philosophy that you need to first supply fuel in the burner to make it work. Electricity is needed to light up a bulb. You can't expect it to light up the room without supplying it with electricity first. That electricity, that power is in the feeling of accomplishment.
