How to Dry Massage Your Body. You Will Be Super Healthy

Dry massage or Gharshana as per Ayurveda


As per Ayurveda, Gharshana is the dry rubbing of the body. This dry rubbing is usually done best with the help of your palms. All you have to do is to rub your entire dry body with the help of your palms before taking a bath. And once you are done, you can take a bath right away.


Here is how to do the dry massage


Once you peel off all the clothes, rub your palms over your entire body. Here is a quick sequence to cover the majority of your skin.


  1. Start with your forearms. rub them thoroughly with an up-and-down motion with your palms. After a couple of gentle rubs, move onto the next part

  2. Next is your arms. Then cover your shoulders, neck and traps.

  3. Rub the armpits. This will exfoliate the area and you will feel that your underarm odor has vanished.

  4. Rub your lats and obliques. Now move onto the lower back.

  5. Rub your hips. Move your arms from your lower back to your buttocks.

  6. Rub the thighs, starting with the quadriceps, and then moving on to the hamstrings

  7. Rub the shins and the calf muscle.

  8. At the end, rub your scalp gently. initially you might see flakes of the dry scalp falling off along with hair strands. But those hair strands would anyway break off with either the shower or while drying the hair, or while combing.


Intensity


You could vary the intensity as per your liking. It is essentially massage, so your decision prevails. But here is a tip. Be firm and fast in your strokes. At the end, your entire skin must a bit crimson, and feel warm to the touch. Once that happens, move under the shower and take a bath as usual. (Here is how to take an optimum bath)


Benefits of a dry massage:


  1. Exfoliates your entire body. If you are thinking of ditching the soap because it strips moisture away from the body, dry massage will work for you like the soap does.

  2. Blood circulation will improve in the skin making it glow.

  3. When you rub your armpits, the odor causing dead skin will exfoliate and you will see fresher clothes and body in the upcoming days. Your cloths will also smell bearable at the end of the day.

  4. When you rub your scalp, it promotes blood circulation in the scalp which is very important for scalp and hair health. You will see that your scalp will be healthier and dandruff will be at bay.

  5. This entire routine of dry massage lasts about 5-7 minutes. It is actually a good exercise in the morning. It will make you more flexible as you will be reaching difficult to reach spots with your hands and bending over to cover the shin and calves etcetera.

  6. You will be able to bear the cold water on the warm body and showers will be more fun.
